The MAC Chronicles: Part II

Now Playing: Bob Marley "Could You Be Loved"

Hi, gorgeous babies!

So I finally turned in my application to MAC! It's a first step to a very long process. I'm very particular about how I turn in applications. The man I needed to talk to was never there when I came to turn it in, so I kept it with me. I want for him to read my application and remember my face. I think that's so important.

I usually make sure my makeup is always on point, but I really wanted to make sure I looked good on Monday. It was raining, which was a good thing because the sun wouldn't have a chance to melt my makeup before I got in the mall. I walked up to him and handed my application, and watched him take a look at it.

"I'm gonna be real honest with you," he said. "We're almost NEVER hiring. Because nobody ever leaves. But that's a good thing for us because it goes to show how great a company MAC is to work for." I told him I understood. He asked me who the employee was who referred me and I gave the name. I think that was also important because remembering names is a big deal. We encounter people all day, every day. If you can remember one or two people that you didn't know before, that says a lot about you, in my opinion. I also remembered his name, and made sure he knew it.

But here was the kicker: He said, "Your makeup is BEAUTIFUL. I'm sure you do gorgeous makeup for people, too." Then he made a special note of that on my application! I was gushing and so appreciative. When I tell you guys I was near tears...it seems like such a small thing, but to be told that my makeup looks great by someone who is a professional and gets paid to do this everyday meant so much. And of course, that can only help when the time comes that they ARE hiring. He also said, "You wouldn't believe how many women come in to apply for MAC with no makeup on." I couldn't believe that. How do you expect to get noticed?! But, whatever. I looked great.

He told me what to expect with the hiring process, which I already knew about, and he encouraged me to keep practicing, which I already do every day. I've been pretty persistent with the workers there, and I'm sure most of them know my face. I'm gonna keep popping in just to keep myself known, and I'm also going to make phone calls regularly to make sure if there is a free spot, I can slip in the cracks.

Wish me luck, guys!

Nails Of The Week!!!

Now Playing: Beyonce "Green Light"
Hi, darlings!

I've decided to incorporate a Nail of the Week segment into my blog because I'm constantly changing up my nail polish. Whether it's leopard print, shatter, or sparkles on my nails I'm always doing something different and I'd like to show you guys some of my favorite things.

So this week's inspiration came from my co-worker Katie. She had this sky blue nail polish on with sparkles and it was too cute! It almost looked professionally done (except for the fact that it was only on three nails--she said she'd been playing around at Target haha). I had to know what colors she used. She didn't remember, so I went to Target on my own and found them! When I asked her how I'd done, she said I'd picked the exact shades she'd used!

Sorry about the crappy camera work...I'm still dealing with my Blackberry camera as of late. The blue is Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure Polish in Barracuda and the sparkles are Nicole by OPI in Make You Smile (yes, that's Justin Bieber's line of nail polish but it's really cute!). The Sally Hansen polish is AMAZING. Katie had been gushing about how awesome the brush was. She said it was really thick, and she was right. The polish goes on really amazingly. So if you guys don't particularly care for the colors I've used here, I still recommend that you try that particular brand. I think it's on sale right now at Target for about $7.

Tell me what you think of my nails, and until next time!

Who Wears Short Shorts?!

Now Playing: The Stunners "Bubblegum"
Hi, dolls!

So lately, I have been OBSESSED with shorts. Those of you who know me know that all I wear are leggings. EVER. Not even jeans. LEGGINGS. That's it and that's all. But I went to Marshall's and saw these really cute shorts for $14.99 that I decided to give a try. They're this silky material and they have pockets (They're very similar to the Forever 21 shorts shown here). I tried them on in the fitting room (something I NEVER do--don't follow my example, though!) and they looked awesomesauce! They made my butt look...existent! I've only had these shorts for three or four weeks but I have worn them three or four times since. I'm so obsessed with them, Friday I went and got the black pair. They're everything.

Bottoms were definitely what I needed. I have a lot of cute tops but black leggings and even jeggings can get kind of old. It was nice to spruce up my summer wardrobe with just one change. I plan on buying a lot more shorts. I don't know why I've been covering up my legs for so long...I kind of have a nice pair! I think it's because I've always been afraid of being labeled as skanky. I have curvy legs and my thighs are really thick, so it's easy for short skirts and shorts to look...shorter. But now I don't care.

I love shorts that you can dress up for a cute summer night, and these definitely do it. I doubt I'll be rocking any denim shorts this summer...or any denim at all, unless it's a vest or something. Denim bottoms are uncomfy for me.

But anyway, that's my short story. Stay tuned: I'll probably have some OOTDs featuring them! Until next time!

The MAC Chronicles: Chapter I

Now Playing: The Stunners "Bubblegum"

I know I've been neglecting this blog so much, but I definitely haven't forgotten about you guys! I've been busy with work, I just bought my first car, and I've also put my YouTube channel on a slight hiatus until I can record on a better camera, especially if I'm going to be doing makeup tutorials. I just want the best for my readers and subscribers!

Speaking of makeup, I've made the decision that I'm going to try to work at MAC Cosmetics. I know what you're thinking. "Everybody wants to work at MAC." "You'll never get in!" First of all, shut up! (Kidding, but really.) I used to think those same thoughts, until a few days ago. I was at work, ringing folks up when this really nice woman comes to my register. We're just talking and she says she's on her lunch break at work and that she told her co-workers she wasn't going to buy anything. I asked where she worked, but I could already tell by her makeup and her sleek black outfit that she worked for MAC. So, of course, we start talking makeup.

I asked her how she got into MAC. She said she had no makeup experience and it took her a year to get the job. She said she was very persistent, as the manager had told her, "If you're persistent with me, I'll be persistent with you." She also told me it's very difficult to get a job at MAC because, aside from the fact that you have to be on point with makeup, nobody ever wants to leave because the company is so amazing. She told me about their discounts and how they get all kinds of free products. I was probably drooling as she talked to me.

Then she said I should apply because my makeup looked really pretty. It's always great to hear compliments from people who do makeup for a living. I think that's what gave me the drive to say, "You know what? Screw it. I'm gonna apply for MAC. Now's a great time. I know I won't get hired immediately but I'm gonna try my hardest."

They always say it's not what you know, it's who you know, and at MAC, it seems that things are no different. I'm an excellent networker, which is a really important trait if you wanna move up in life. I'm good at using the gift of gab to get what I want. If you talk to the right people, you can get anywhere you need to be. So, Tuesday was the day. I did my makeup supercute (see the picture!) and walked in with confidence after my shift at my current job.

Of course I did some looking around first (for research...hehehehe) and then a man approached me, asking me if I had any questions. I'd actually talked to this man before and I remembered his name, which is a big deal if you're trying to get a job somewhere. Remembering names doesn't seem important at the time, but it shows that you're paying attention. I said to him, "I know it's really hard to get a job at MAC, but I was wondering if I could get an application anyway." He told me there were no current openings (surprise, surprise!), but he'd be glad to get me an application. I looked around some more while he ran to get me an application. When he came back he said he didn't mean to discourage me, it's just that nobody ever leaves the company. I told him I understood that, and he said that at least I'd be in the system when it's (eventually) time for them to do some hiring.

Nowhere on the application does it ask you for makeup experience, which calmed my insecurities a bit. I know I'm good with makeup. I'm better than the average person. I know I could be better. I have a LOT of techniques down, but there's so much to learn. I also really need to work on doing other people's makeup, because when you get your final interview, they ask you to bring a person with you so you can do their makeup. I think once I keep learning, which I'm constantly doing, and once I turn my application and call back ALL THE TIME, I'll be able to get the job. I'm really confident in that. I think that's all you really need.

I'm gonna be covering my experience with MAC as updates come along. I plan on calling them literally every week, but I know people who called every three days. You never know when you might be able to slip in, so being persistent seems like it's definitely key. I can't wait to turn in my application tomorrow! I'll let you guys know how everything goes.

Ta-ta, lovers!
