So it has been a very interesting few weeks for me. If you know me personally, follow me on Twitter, or watch my YouTube videos, you probably know how absolutely obsessed I am with a) being cheap, or b) finding a great deal. So...buying one of those overpriced flatirons has always been out of the question for me.
UNTIL.
I was in bed just wondering about the grade of my hair. I used to have the silkiest, bounciest hair EVER. No relaxer necessary. I was trying to figure out where I went wrong. Okay, maybe it's the relaxers I've been getting lately, but that cannot possibly be it. Maybe it's the heat. And then it hit me:
MAYBE IT'S MY FLATIRON.
You guys. The flatiron I've been using is embarrassing. It looks like a well-seasoned cast iron skillet and does everything short of catch fire when you even turn it on. But it straightened my hair. That was all that mattered at the time. I started thinking about those expensive flatirons, like CHIs and stuff. I couldn't possibly see myself spending more than $25 on a flatiron. I decided to ask some of my co-workers what they thought. They were telling me I had to get the flatiron from the kiosk outside of my job. They said it came with a lifetime warranty, so you can always bring it back if you have any problems.
Then, my co-worker invited me to her house so I could try out her straightener. It was HEAVEN. I didn't have to do my hair for about two or three days, and she offered to sell me hers for fifty bucks! We agreed that when we got paid, I'd pay her to have the flatiron and she was going to buy a new one. These flatirons are made with stone, apparently, and the stone absorbs the heat, not your hair. So it's not burning your hair. My hair feels softer and silkier from using this iron. My old flatiron was making my hair feel like thin strips of bacon or something.
My co-worker showed me her routine. (She's Creole like me, so we have a very similar grade of hair) She uses an oil spray instead of a cream, which I had been using all this time. I didn't want to put straight-up oil on my hair because I didn't want it to weigh down my hair and make it greasy, but the spray works much better (I'm using Organics by Africa's Best Tea-Tree Shine Strengthening Hair Polish). I only use a few sprays a day, if that. Just whenever it feels a bit dry. I'm going to keep my ends healthy and hopefully that, mixed with using my new flatiron, will promote some healthy growth.

Anything you could possibly need for your hair is here, so if you want a better way to heat-style your hair, this is it. Being as cheap as I am, I really had to look at it as an investment (Obviously I didn't pay some of these prices but still--$50 is a lot for a flatiron!). Think of it like this--you buy a cheap drugstore flatiron that does nothing but burn your hair. It breaks or gets burnt up, and in a few months you'll be spending more money on another. The money you spent on two sucky flatirons could have paid for a Royale flatiron!
I've used this for about two weeks now and it's amazing how much my hair has already changed. My co-worker says she doesn't get split ends anymore. We were walking in the mall together and a lady complimented us and thought we'd gotten our hair professionally done. I see some great hair days in my future! Let me know what you guys think!
